car thieves are getting smarter and now they're using these signal sniffers to grab your key's signal from outside your house to steal your ride i used to just toss my key in one of those faraday bags but turns out toyota smart keys have a trick built in after locking your car hold the lock button and press unlock twice while still holding lock you'll see the red light on the key blink 4 times which means the signal's turned off just hit unlock again when you're ready to use it works like a charm and way easier than messing with a bag has anyone else tried this or got other anti-theft tips worth sharing

yeah this is like a sleep mode or something like that the fod doesnt emit any signals and robers cant steal your car

if you dont want to mess with that everytime you can get a faraday poush and get the key out only when needed

But why is toyota not shouting this from the rooftops? It's buried in obscure manuals while thieves are out here sweeping driveways like it's a sport.

They're getting more clever nowadays and thats real life. With all the info available online with just a bit of internet then poof, they now know what to do. This is very informative, I hope it works on my car, is it standard?

Another thing I've heard is keeping your key in the freezer for max signal blocking, it sounds crazy but some people really hype it

Thieves are getting smarter, huh? This tech stuff cuts both ways. That Toyota key trick sounds way simpler than those Faraday bags. I wonder if it works on all models, or just the new ones. And that freezer thing, crazy! Has anyone actually tried it?

How about adding a cheap steering wheel lock, low tech stuff but still a solid visual deterrent and if your car supports it, disabling the OBD port or using an OBD lock can stop some of these high tech thieves from programming a new key, lol

the freezer? Not sure how good of an idea this is, because you're risking condensation and frying something that's gonna cost pretty penny to replace. As for the key turning off thing it's nothing new. A friend of mine had a Lexus IS250 from 2008 with this feature, it think it was called vacation more or something like that. The fob turns off and you sleep peacefully at night.

I'm guessing that works when you're at home and the thieves try to grab the signal, but sooner or later you'll want to unlock the car, so you'll need to turn on the fob, so not sure how good of an idea this is except to get a longer battery life.
