been running stock Michelin ATX Trail tires for a while now and thinking it's time for something more versatile. the question though: do I need to replace all 5 tires and rotate them as a set or is it cool to just do 4 and leave the spare? I've got the lockers and MTS on my LC, but what happens if I use the old spare after the rest of the tires wear down a bit? don't want any issues on the trail. anyone here done something like this or have advice?

I'm new to this landcruiser thing so I'm not sure if my opinion is valid, but I believe it's logical to purchase all 5. I'm not going to risk it if it were me, that I'll be stuck with a spare tire that's flat if you don't replace all 5. It's just not convenient if you ever g on a long drive without a spare at all. You can't trust a Michelin too much.

It's best to replace all 5 of them. If you just do 4 and your spare sits there getting old and unworn, if you use it later with the other used tires, it can cause issues

Yep, definitely replace all 5. @stu_art_little do you have any recos on good alternative to Michelin?

I know it's tempting to just toss 4 new tires on and forget about it, @XPBoostSeeker777 but the second you blow a tire off road and put the uneven worn out spare, you're begging for drivetrain bind or worse.

you make a great point, having mismatched tires can really lead to trouble when you're off the beaten path. It's also wise to make sure that spare tire is in good condition

Simple answer. Replace all.

If you're planning to gooo hard, better go ahead and swap all five. The spare, if you don't swap it out, might be the cause of your death. Kidding and too far fetched but it's possible.

Better to replace all 5 tires together since your lockers and MTS rely on even tire size. Using an old spare with more wear can cause driveline issues on the trail. If you want to keep the spare longer , rotate it regularly with the others so they wear evenly and avoid problems
